The pursuit of a dream
Have you ever had a dream so big that it seemed out of reach? That was exactly my case… until today. Since my childhood, the world of fashion has fascinated me. Everything attracted me: the role of a model, the creation of clothing, the fabrics, the making of patterns, and much more. Yet, I always believed that this world was reserved for an elite — more creative, more talented people from privileged backgrounds or living in big cities. This vision persisted until the day I opened my eyes.
The first steps of a great adventure
My story begins at the end of my high school years. Like many, adolescence was a tumultuous time for me. I had a visceral need to escape, to become independent, and to see the world. I wanted to live life to the fullest! That's how, at 16, I made a big decision: to go to Australia for a year to learn English and, who knows, maybe find my path. I am infinitely grateful to my family 🤍 who supported me financially in this project.
"This trip was a turning point. Being alone in a foreign environment pushed me to evolve quickly, to discover my strengths, and to take control of my life. At home, as one of four children, it was sometimes difficult for me to find my place and build my identity. But in Australia, everything changed. I learned a language, strengthened my independence, and gained valuable self-confidence. This experience transformed me!!!"
The decision
Upon my return, my vision was clear: I wanted to build a career in the fashion industry and open my own store. At the time, a physical store seemed like the only option, as online commerce was just in its infancy. My plan was set: an AEC in Fashion Design at LaSalle College, followed by an AEC in Business Start-up. Everything went as planned, and these programs enriched me both professionally and personally.
But an unexpected event changed everything: I met the love of my life. An unexpected but decisive encounter. Him, a man from Abitibi, deeply attached to his home region. Me, a lover of big cities, dreaming of Montreal and its vibrancy. This dilemma disrupted my plans.
Reorient one's path
'Despite my initial ambitions, I continued my studies and earned my two degrees. But when my boyfriend returned to Abitibi, I made a bold choice: to move in with him in Amos. In my eyes, this region did not seem favorable for opening a profitable shop. So, I put my dream away in a corner, convinced that it was an unrealistic ambition.'
"Attention, it was not a sacrifice of love at the expense of my passion. I let go of my dream out of fear and lack of self-confidence. I wrongly believed that I did not have the skills or talent necessary to succeed."
Forget oneself... then find oneself
The years went by. I explored new professional horizons and started a family. But, despite everything, a part of me remained unsatisfied. I often wanted to return to my passion, but each time, my insecurities took over: was I creative enough, smart enough, skilled enough? What if I lost everything in a crazy project? These questions held me back for years.
"I had to go through a difficult trial to finally wake up: a depression. This episode, although painful, was the wake-up call I needed. It forced me to reflect on what was truly missing in my life: a professional project that excites me, stimulates me, and resembles me."
Choose oneself and move forward
I owe this renewal to my two great daughters as well. Like me, they are passionate about fashion and design. Their willingness to invest alongside me in my project has been an incredible source of inspiration. Thanks to them, I found the courage to overcome my fears and take the plunge. Together, we are bringing a shared dream to life.
"Today, I want to prove to my daughters, but also to the next generation, that it is never too late to pursue your dreams. The limits I had imposed on myself came solely from my own beliefs. Once those were deconstructed, everything became possible."
Conclusion: Live your dreams
The path to your dreams begins with a first step: believing in yourself. Face your fears, overcome your doubts, and dare to dream big. If I can achieve it after so many years of hesitation, you can too. So, don't wait any longer: choose yourself and live your aspirations to the fullest.
